Episode 14

KBE Insider interviews Lalith Suresh, researcher at VMware and Michael Gasch, formerly a staff engineer in the Office of the CTO at VMware. They both contribute to the Sieve open source project, automatic reliability testing for Kubernetes controllers. We’ll dive into how the Sieve project got started, what’s next with the project, as well as how you can contribute.

KBE Insider interviews Travis Nielsen, Sr. Principal Software Engineer at Red Hat and one of the original founders of Rook, the open source storage orchestrator for Kubernetes. In this KBE Insider episode we’ll dive into the work Travis does as the Maintainer of Rook, his work on the Ceph distributed team, and how to get involved in open source projects.

KBE Insider interviews Daniel Oh, Sr. Principal Technical Marketing Manager at Red Hat and CNCF Ambassador as well as James Falkner, Director of Product Marketing at Red Hat. In this KBE Insider episode we’ll dive into the work Daniel and James do to evangelize cloud-native microservices and serverless functions. KBE Insider interviews Idit Levine, founder and CEO of Solo.io. Idit is also an evangelist and practitioner of DevOps. In this KBE Insider episode we’ll focus on how Idit got started as a contributor to open source projects such as Kubernetes, Istio, and Envoy. We’ll also ask her to share her path to becoming a founder and any advice for future founders and contributors of open source projects.

Episode 10

KBE Insider interviews Sasha Grunert, senior software engineer at Red Hat. Sasha joined the open source community in 2018, contributing to open source projects as well as evangelizing Kubernetes-related technologies. In this KBE Insider episode we’ll focus on Sasha’s contributions to the open source projects such as Kubernetes, CRI-O, and his work on SIG Release.

Episode 9

For this episode, KBE Insider interviews Bandan Das, software engineer at Red Hat and instructor at Boston University, as well as David Vossel, principal software engineer at Red Hat. Bandan works on KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) and David contributes to the open-source project, KubeVirt, a virtualization API for Kubernetes. In this episode we’ll focus on what the future of VMs looks like in a Kubernetes world.

KBE Insider interviews Peter Hunt, senior engineer at Red Hat and CRI-O project maintainer, about the CRI-O project and using CRI-O as your container runtime, particularly in light of the upcoming deprecation of Kubernetes Dockershim. KBE Insider is hosted by Josh Berkus, Kubernetes Community Manager at Red Hat and Clinical Assistant Professor of Computing and Data Science at Boston University, Langdon White. Episode 7

For our first episode of the new year, KBE Insider interviews Liz Rice about her role as Chief Open Source Officer at Isovalent (creators of the Cilium eBPF-based networking project) and Chair of the CNCF’s Technical Oversight Committee. We’ll learn how Liz got started with contributing to the Kubernetes community and tips on how you can get more involved. It’s the new year, so let’s see where Liz thinks Kubernetes is heading in 2022!

Episode 6

This is the last KBE Insider episode of the year! We talk to Kaslin Fields about her role as Developer Advocate at Google Cloud and CNCF Ambassador. We’ll learn how Kaslin makes technology, such as Kubernetes, more accessible to a broader audience through various mediums, including comics. Also, as a member of the Kubernetes SIG for Contributors, Kaslin will share her experience contributing to the Kubernetes community and share how you can get involved.

In episode 05, we talk to Savitha Raghunathan, Senior Software Engineer at Red Hat, about her work and experience as an open-source contributor within the Kubernetes ecosystem. Savitha will also share her most recent experience attending KubeCon North America in person as well as what keeps her motivated to contribute to the Kubernetes community, and she’ll also share information on how you can find opportunities to get involved.

We talk to Maciej Szulik, Software Engineer, Red Hat, about what it’s like being a SIG-lead and his work on Kubernetes CLI.
